WHO CAN VOLUNTEER

The Gulf Coast Humane Society conditionally accepts applications for court-ordered community service.

You must be 18 to do community service with GCHS.

We cannot accept any application for a person having a felony record (current or previous) and absolutely no Domestic Violence/violent crimes or Animal Cruelty charges (current or previous).

**Please note that volunteer hours DO NOT qualify for court ordered Community Service.**

Community Service participants will help with laundry, cleaning, landscape, etc. You will not have contact with the animals.

You can bring your completed application along with a copy of your photo ID to the shelter or email to: [email protected]

Please allow 5-7 business days for a background check to be completed. Once you are approved, you will be contacted.

IMPORTANT:

Community Service Volunteers (CSV) will be assigned onsite jobs at the Humane Society according to what needs to be done that day. Shifts must last a minimum of two hours and will be assigned. We cannot guarantee more than 4 hours per shift depending on available workload. You will NOT have contact with the animals. I understand the risks of spending time in the shelter and agree to assume responsibility for any and all injury, harm, or other incident that may occur during my community service here. I also understand that if I exhibit behaviors considered by GCHS staff to be dangerous or inappropriate, I will be removed from the Community Service program and my Probation Officer may be contacted.needs to be done that day. Please wear the community service badge at all times when you are on shelter grounds.

No tank tops, halter-tops, or shirts that expose the midriff area.

Long pants, capris or knee length shorts

No skirts or dresses while working on-site please.

No hot pants, short shorts or pants that do not stay up on their own.

Shoes must be rubber sole, non-skid and closed toe shoes. Socks are recommended.

Absolutely no flip flops or sandals!

Working Guidelines

Please initial that you have read and understood the following rules and regulations.

You MUST sign in and out in the Community Service log each time you work.

You MUST follow the list of jobs to do. Failure or refusal to perform any job will result in being asked to leave.

You MUST wear a community service vest at all times while on GCHS property.

I fully understand and agree to assume all risks involved in any and all duties that I perform for the GCHS in my community service volunteer capacity. Such duties include but are not limited to kennel staff assistance and other duties.

I fully understand and agree that either failure to comply with any and all of the obligations outlined in this Community Service Agreement, or for any reason whatsoever, while performing my community service obligation at the shelter, the GCHS at its sole discretion may immediately terminate my services.

I fully understand that I am responsible for keeping a signed record of my hours and that, unless I have signed in/out on the Community Service Sign-In sheet, the GCHS will not be able to confirm hours.
