A Mission to Serve Pets
Dedicated to being a safe haven for pets in need by providing medical care, promoting adoptions, and nurturing the bond between pets and people in Southwest Florida.
[Fort Myers, FL, May 20, 2024] Gulf Coast Humane Society has named Darcy Andrade as its new Executive Director.
Andrade brings more than 30 years of experience in animal protection and welfare across Washington State and Florida. From 2013 to 2021, she served as Director of Collier County Domestic Animal Services, where she turned a high-kill shelter into a no-kill facility within two years, work that earned her the Walter Turken Award from Humane Society Naples. Her career also includes leadership roles at Lee County Domestic Animal Services, Clark County Animal Control, King County Animal Control, and the Humane Society for Southwest Washington.
Andrade serves as Executive Director of the Florida Animal Protection and Advocacy Association and the Florida Animal Protection Foundation, where she works to advance legislation and programs that protect animals statewide. She has served on the Board of Directors for both the Florida Animal Control Association and the Washington Animal Control Association, and is actively involved with Florida Animal Friend and Florida Leaders in Lifesaving.
“Darcy will be a wonderful asset for Gulf Coast Humane Society,” said Lee Hall, Board President. “She has extensive animal welfare and nonprofit experience and strong community partners to propel us in future planning and growth.”
At home, Andrade and her husband have a houseful of adopted dogs and cats, including special needs, medically unadoptable, and senior hospice animals.
Gulf Coast Humane Society has served Southwest Florida since 1947. Every animal in our care receives medical, behavioral, social, and nutritional support until adoption. The organization also helps keep pets healthy and in their homes through its affordable veterinary wellness and spay/neuter clinics, and since 2020 has operated a Pet Food Pantry for families who need help feeding their pets.
Andrade began her role on May 20, 2024.
