Thanks to the Dolly’s Dream Project, Gulf Coast Humane Society has the opportunity to highlight two bully breed type of dogs at a time to help enhance their odds of being adopted and also to spread positive awareness these dogs so justly deserve.

“Dolly” (pictured here) was a Square Head who opened the heart of the man who adopted her and taught him how loving, sweet and gentle these dogs can be. No different than any other type of dog. Today, in her honor, Dolly’s Dream is to give dogs like her a second chance at life and the type of home every dog deserves.
Throughout shelters in the U.S., one of the most common dogs who occupy those kennels are “Square Heads.” Big, tall, short, small they have one thing in common – a head that looks a bit “square.” At first glance, some would call a dog like this a “Pit Bull” or a “bully breed”. Misinformation about these breeds have given many a bad reputation.
Dolly’s Dream is a project to encourage the adoption of our “Square Heads” and to help counter the unfortunate stereotypes and myths that some people still believe about these dogs. As a no-kill shelter, Gulf Coast Humane Society enthusiastically takes in every breed, with the ultimate goal in mind to find the perfect, happy forever home for all! Iris Mae enjoys spending time with her people, whether that’s going on walks, hanging out together, or soaking up affection. She has a gentle, loving nature with just the right touch of playful energy, making her a wonderful companion for an active or relaxed home alike.
Iris Mae is ready for her forever home—a loving family who will adore her for her sweet personality, amazing ears, and loyal heart. With her cutesy looks, kind spirit, and affectionate nature, Iris Mae is sure to bring endless love, laughter, and happiness to her new family!
Lina is a beautiful 7-year-old black-and-white mix with a gentle soul and a wise, loving heart. This lovely girl weighs about 67 pounds and has a calm, sweet presence that makes her a wonderful companion. Friendly and affectionate, Lina enjoys being around people and would love a home where she can relax, feel secure, and be cherished.
Lina is heartworm positive, but she qualifies for our Silver Paws VIP Program, making her a special senior sweetheart who comes with extra support and benefits for her adopter. She’s looking for a compassionate family willing to provide the care she needs and the love she so deeply deserves during this stage of her life.

Unique is a stunning 40lb blonde bombshell terrier mix with a smile as big as her heart! This lowrider cutie is the ultimate sweetheart—happy, friendly, and ready to love everyone she meets. Seriously, every person is her new best friend!
She’s got fabulous house and leash manners, and she’s 100% convinced she was born to be your personal lap dog. Her dream? A cozy spot right next to you on the couch, soaking up all the cuddles.
Unique is currently on a special diet to keep her skin looking and feeling fabulous, and she’ll need to continue that at home. She’s also looking for a home where she can be the one and only—no other pets, please! With her charm and beauty, she deserves to be the star of the show.
Midnight is a beautiful 60-lb terrier mix with a heart as gentle as her name. She has been in the shelter since April 2025 and is truly hoping her forever family finds her soon. Despite a long shelter stay, Midnight remains incredibly sweet, calm, and loving—just waiting for a place where she can finally relax and feel safe.
Midnight would do best as the only pet in the home (no other animals), where she can soak up all the love and attention for herself. She also requires a strict sensitive-skin diet for life—no extras or substitutions—so a committed adopter who can follow her dietary needs is essential to keeping her comfortable and healthy.
She may be a bit reserved at first, but with patience and kindness, Midnight blossoms into a deeply affectionate and loyal companion. She’s longing for a soft bed, a peaceful home, and someone who will love her unconditionally after all this time. Midnight is ready for her happily ever after—could it be with you?
