Gulf Coast Humane Society Foster Program

Why Join Our Foster Program?

Every year, the Gulf Coast Humane Society welcomes thousands of displaced animals, each with their own story and need for care. Many are orphaned kittens and puppies too young for adoption, injured or sick pets who need time to heal, or animals who simply need a quiet break from the shelter environment. For these pets, foster families are nothing short of lifesavers.

By opening your home, you give a vulnerable animal the chance to heal, grow, and feel loved. Fostering provides a safe, nurturing environment that prepares them for adoption and helps them take the next step toward a forever family. Whether you’re caring for a tiny bottle baby, offering comfort to a recovering pet, or providing temporary love to an animal in transition, your impact is immeasurable.

GCHS provides all the supplies and medical care. You provide the second chance. With just your love, patience, and a safe space, you can transform an animal’s future and be the bridge between shelter and home.

Anyone with a compassionate heart can make an incredible difference by joining our foster program. No matter your level of experience or how much time you can give, whether it’s a few hours a day or more, we will guide you every step of the way and help match you with a foster pet that fits your lifestyle.
Foster families play many lifesaving roles: offering a calm place for animals to decompress, providing round-the-clock care for orphaned kittens and puppies, giving nursing moms a safe and comfortable environment to raise their babies, or helping pets build confidence and social skills to prepare them for adoption. Every foster home directly changes the course of an animal’s life, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

Please note: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check. We are unable to accept applications from anyone with a felony record, or with current or prior charges related to Domestic Violence, Battery, or Animal Cruelty, as well as those with a history of violating county or state animal ordinances.
